The Company

Established in early 2004, we combine the experience and expertise of 27 engineers, architects and designers with offices in Queenstown, Auckland, Christchurch and Dubai. As a multi-disciplinary design consultancy, we provide structural and civil engineering design, architectural design and 3D visualisation services. In response to the needs of clients and projects, we offer expertise in each of these core disciplines as separate services or as integrated knowledge. Our team is fresh, energetic and progressive. Clients are provided with dedicated staff, reliable and quality-assured services and design expertise.

Services

Our entrance into the architectural profession was driven by Warrick’s enthusiasm for architecture, which aligned our engineering expertise with architectural form. A Structural Engineer by profession, Warrick specialises in the design of architecturally significant buildings based on structural simplicity and elegance. His concept of Structure Led Architecture draws on his structural design experience and appreciation of architectural form, harnessing the key elements of engineering and architecture. To date, our services have been predominantly commissioned by Slant – an innovative design-build company dedicated to developing unique residential designs while providing outstanding project management and construction services. Our architectural team provides quality design projects and iconic architectural responses to the wider market with the added advantages of a multi-disciplinary office environment. With quality the focus, the scale of the project is not a concern. Our current work includes, residential, civic and major commercial development projects.

3D Visualisation

3D visualisation involves taking architectural design to the next level - applying art to architecture. Based on 2D AutoCAD files, we construct 3D models using Revit and render the animation frames with 3D Studio Max. We also apply photomontage work to compliment our rendering. Our 3D visualisation team is passionate about and committed to design, with all staff having qualifications and experience in architectural and/or engineering design. With our design teams collaborating across these platforms the end result is engaging and comprehensive. 3D visualisation design is a primarily used for marketing, conceptual design, design competitions and consent applications.

Projects

Wave

We provided the architectural design services for Wave - one of three supreme houses designed for Lake Ridge - based on the concept of Structure Led Architecture. Set high on the slopes of the Lake Ridge enclave, Wave’s sensational contemporary modernist design favours the sensual and dramatic. The tiered design responds to the area’s unique terrain while the design of its sweeping curves perfectly frames the spectacular views that fan out below. For this project, Weber also prepared the 3D visualisations for marketing.

Eco 1

We provided concept design for a sustainable commercial development of 14 units in the Queenstown Industrial Area. The natural resources of the site – prevailing winds and year round sunshine – are captured in the design with the use of solar panels, wind turbines and the wide use of glass facades.

Paihia Renovations

The renovation of the existing Paihia Beach Resort complex is designed to provide visual and functional cohesion to all of the facilities already provided at the resort. The use of light and neutral materials throughout, the updating of the external facade and the initial visual perception of the resort, are all designed to enhance the aesthetic experience for the resort’s guests. The update of the exterior appearance is designed to integrate with the interior refurbishment and to take the complex well into the 21st century.

Arc

We provided the architectural design services for Arc – one of three supreme houses designed for Lake Ridge based on the concept of Structure Led Architecture. Arc is a modern and luxurious design where the internal space has been sculptured into two levels of curved contemporary living. The double sweeping 493 square metres arc provides the ultimate platform for living and entertaining. From the spiral staircase entrance the design flows into open plan living that spills onto extensive decks, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living environ. A balance of comfort, functionality and luxury has been achieved with four double bedrooms, stylish integrated kitchen and dining areas, a sunken lounge and media room. Other design features include a library, double garage, glass passenger lift and heated lap pool. For this project, Weber also prepared the 3D visualisations and flythrough for marketing.

AJ Hackett Nevis

We developed an architectural concept and design for an ‘elegant shed’, which met requirements for design flexibility for spatial and organisational changes, customer processing and future development. The building is sympathetic to its dramatic rural landscape, using simple and natural materials that allow the occupants to fully experience the centre’s spectacular surroundings.

Emaar

We provided conceptual architectural design and 3D visualisation for a multi-storey business park in Dubai.

Mahina

We provided architectural design of a high quality dwelling based on the concept of Structure Led Architecture. The geometry of Mahina was inspired by the bays below, which echo throughout the curves of the structure. Concrete and glass are the dominant materials. Three elegantly curved concrete planes are layered and supported by a series of seven arches, which provide elegant internal sculptural form.

Twelve Breamtail

This was a commissioned Smartpod concept situated in Bream Tail, a unique coastal sanctuary dedicated to ecological conservation. With strong consideration of this projects sensitive location, this design minimises disturbance to the natural topography. The structural arrangement enjoys a dramatic cantilevering, allowing uninterrupted views of the stunning natural sanctuary.

Jagged Edge

Jagged Edge is an innovative and high quality dwelling based on the concept of Structure Led Architecture. The simple beauty of minimalism is present in both elemental and geometric form and content throughout this innovative structure. Carefully considered elements combine with fluid floor plans and the use of natural materials to generate an elegant space. Inside, simplicity thrives and is complimented with values of compactness, efficiency and discreteness. The elegant minimalism of the interior combines seamlessly with contemporary technology, allowing viewers to experience the external natural forces without distraction.

Corsican Cove

Architectural design applied to a conceptual Smartpod. With full height glazing opening onto extensive deck areas, Corsican Cove is designed for living and enjoying. The key design element is a simple arrangement of modern rectangular shapes cantilevering over three levels, maximising the lake and mountain views of Queenstown.

Lion Rock

We provided the conceptual architectural design for this project, which will be the centrepiece of the Lion Rock Golf Course. Utilising a series of magnificent public spaces that take full advantage of the spectacular environment that surrounds it, the design will be experienced sculpturally – engaging the material and natural form of the exterior and interior. The units will utilise the best of modern technology and sustainable design.

IAL Warehouse

For this project, we provided architectural design together with 3D visualisations for a large warehouse facility in Dubai Logistics City.

Paihia Beach Resort

We provided the architectural design services for an extension to a hotel on a sensitive site overlooking the Waitangi Treaty grounds in the Bay of Islands. It was critical that the design be sympathetic to the existing hotel as well as sensitive to the abundant native flora and fauna on the steeply sloped site. Facilities include a cinema, gym, restaurant and conference facilities in a five star hotel environment on a prestigious waterfront location.

Smartpods

"Contemporary, symmetrical and spatially simple, Smartpods are modular, rectangular designs of steel and glass – a cantilevered solution to steep terrain." - Smartpods Ltd We provide all architectural design services to Smartpods Ltd for each unique Smartpod concept developed. The design of a Smartpod takes the simplicity and strength of steel, concrete and glass to create building shapes and spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Crowne Plaza

We provided conceptual architectural design and 3D visualisation for a new carpark building that encompassed a health club, restaurant, nightclub and swimming pool for the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai.

Restaurant

Inspired by the waters of Lake Wakatipu, this conceptual design provides a link between the indoor and outdoor spaces, highlighting the features of both. The curves of the roof open the internal space, increasing the use of natural light within and allowing extensive views to The Remarkables and Cecil and Walter Peaks. For this project, we provided conceptual architectural design and 3D visualisations for marketing.
